From the hooks used to grab onto flowers, to the shiny dimpled carapace, to the razor thin hair, a macro view of a beetle is like looking into another world.

    Pollen Collection

The fuzzy bumble bee goes from flower to flower and pollen builds up on his legs and body, slowly covering him from head to toe.

    Eight Legged Terror

Waiting in the dark, this spider hung from its web looking for unsuspecting insects who got too close.

    Tropical Rest

The blue morpho is a beautiful and large butterfly with a spectacular and glittering blue wing top. The underside of its wings however are a dull brown to provide camouflage. It immediately covers its bright blue wings as it lands, making it nearly impossible to capture the true beauty of this butterfly. It took over an hour of trying before I managed to snag this brief moment when he spread his wings before take off.

Making a perfect umbrella, this mushroom grew in a soft bed of moss on the side of a rock, and had a nearly perfect shape.

  • Emerald Fly

    Emerald Fly

Flies and other insects enjoy the nectar of the butterfly bush just as much as bees, and this little guy was a bright green to contrast the purple flowers.

  • Blending In

  • Patterned Red

    Patterned Red

This dragonfly only landed for about 2 seconds, but I was able to capture the stunning detail in his wings which almost look spraypainted with a deep orange and red.

  • Up Close

    Up Close

A true macro view of a butterfly reveals the startling detail hidden beneath our view. Thousands of tiny hairs, complex eyes and an array of color make up a butterfly.

This group of mushrooms looks like a perfectly organized set of rooms for any passing fairies.

  • In Profile

    In Profile

Taking a drink from a leaf offered me a perfect opportunity to get a nice side profile of this butterfly.

  • Glowing Fungus

A single ray of sunshine illuminated this mushroom as it sat on a bed of moss.
